Keur Djembe was created by Ibrahima Diokhane a native of Senegal, West Africa but a New Yorker for the past 25 years.
He began making drums at the age of 12 out of any materials he could find. When he immigrated to NY he was a street vendor but always had a djembe with him. People always inquired about buying his djembe or fixing one for them.
So in 1998, Ibrahima opened a small store front in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Today the store is stock full of drums, art, and African novelties. You never know what you will find. Ibrahima can repair all types of drums, gives djembe lessons and does workshops for schools. Stop by the store at 568 Union Street at 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn.
